UMC Earns Prestigious STAR Qualification from Leading Trade Association

Initiating a new standard of excellence for the mechanical service contracting industry, the Mechanical Service Contractors of America, MSCA, has raised the bar for training and professionalism with their new MSCA STAR Qualification program. The association initiative of excellence offers proof to building owners and facilities managers that the STAR qualified contractor is providing the highest level of skill, quality, value, and professionalism in the industry. Recently, University Mechanical Contractors, Inc., UMC, was designated as a STAR after surpassing stringent business and HVAC service standards set forth by MSCA.

“We are proud to display the STAR logo as proof to our customers.  For over 90 years, our company has consistently strived to surpass customer expectations and be a leader in the commercial and industrial markets we serve,” says Rich Happel, UMC Service Group General Manager.

Focusing on excellence in commercial, industrial and institutional HVAC service, the STAR program is the first in the U.S. to qualify contractors based on overall operations of the company.  “Certification of the contractor’s technicians is only one component of the program,” explains MSCA Executive Director Barbara Dolim. Contractors also have to offer outstanding customer service, uphold a strict code of business ethics, maintain a safety record above the industry average, and focus on continuing education and training for all employees.  “We are offering a way to show end-users that our contractors provide the highest level of quality, value, skill and professionalism in the industry,” Dolim adds.
