Ashley’s ability to listen, empathize and consider multiple points of view is informed by all the places she’s called home—from her rural roots in the south to time spent living in Wisconsin, Colorado, Texas, and now, Washington.

Brian’s career in the built environment began in 2014 after stints in the US Air Force and working as an aerospace quality control investigator. On projects, communication is key, along with detailed document control and weekly planning meetings with all team members to ensure schedules and budgets are met. Brian thrives on working with a great team, making our customers happy and, of course, building really cool stuff!

Brian is based out of UMC’s Fife office and is responsible for maintaining the growth of UMC’s south end market presence.

As the Healthcare Market Lead, Camilla is responsible for management and oversight of healthcare clients, projects, and strategic opportunities across the organization. Her presence positions UMC for sustainable growth and enhanced relationships within the healthcare marketplace. Camilla is passionate about healthcare and has spent her career trying to make it easier for healthcare organizations to do the right thing. Her background and experience working directly for healthcare organizations on both the operation and capital construction sides has given Camilla a deep understanding of the challenges these facilities face day-to-day.

Camilla is a self-proclaimed lifelong learner and firm believer that education is the one thing that can never be taken away. She holds an M.S. in Disaster Medicine and Management, along with the credentials CHFM (Certified Healthcare Facility Manager), CHC (Certified Healthcare Contractor), CHPEW (Certified Healthcare Physical Environment Worker), and BOC L1 & L2. An active member in the healthcare community, Camilla has held positions with the Washington State Society for Healthcare Engineering (WSSHE) Puget Sound Chapter, the American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE), and the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Camilla helped develop the “Stationary Engineers Apprenticeship Program” in collaboration with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 302 and Seattle Children’s Hospital; this program is a rigorous four-year program that couples classroom learning with on-the-job training to equip the next generation of building engineers.

Chris is a self-proclaimed customer advocate and has spent his career in various roles that have spanned many aspects of a facilities lifecycle, including building automation and controls, building optimization, critical environments, major construction support, tenant improvements as well as small repairs and facilitating emergency maintenance. He recently completed a Professional Certificate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in biotechnology and life science. As UMC’s Life Sciences Market Lead, Chris specializes in supporting clients with all phases of life science facilities throughout the Pacific Northwest. Chris is responsible for strategically growing UMC’s presence throughout the life sciences market and developing a framework to maintain the group’s position as an industry leader.

Darren Young

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY DIRECTOR

As Director of Construction Technology, Darren leads the strategy, implementation, management, and support of construction and manufacturing technology across UMC. His experience to date spans a wide variety of industries in manufacturing, construction, and software, Darren’s ability to navigate between high-level vision to the very nuanced details of problems helps him develop solid processes and troubleshooting. Among his many accomplishments, he was a subject matter expert for the development of an open-source Autodesk Fabrication COD Scripting language extension for Microsoft Visual Studio code editor.

For over a decade, Young has provided the MEP contractor industry a free suite of Autodesk Fabrication Scripts to help them manage their Autodesk Fabrication configurations. He is an avid speaker at Autodesk University, MEP Force, and the Congress of the Future of Engineering Software. He is a member of the Autodesk Developer Network (ADN); Autodesk MEP Fabrication Customer Council; SMACNA Construction Technology Committee; and US National BIM (Building Information Model) Standards Committee/National Institute of Building Sciences (former).

With an undergraduate degree in Information Technology and Administrative Management, Griffin brings eight years of experience in roles focusing on customer relationships and account management in both the building and high-tech industries. He earned his Construction Project Engineer Certificate from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) which allowed him to gain deep experience with mechanical codes and become familiar with HVAC equipment firsthand. Additionally, Griffin has earned his Lean Yellow Belt and Procore Certification for Project Managers (Core Tools).

An engineer, hands-on commissioning agent, and senior project manager, Josh Wilson manages major projects from concept to reality throughout the greater Puget Sound area. One of UMC’s fastest growing project managers, Josh has led some of the most influential buildings in recent years including 1120 Denny Way and Block 14 in Seattle, and 555 108th Tower, Bellevue’s first high-rise over 450 feet high. Off the clock, Josh is known for fixing up just about everything on his vintage Datsun.

His time as a mechanic working on vehicle recalls and various other mechanical components has helped him understand the importance of scheduling, accurate time estimates, and quality control/quality assurance (QA/QC).

Martin Clinton specializes in energy efficiency and building operations throughout the built environment. His background includes working for a major healthcare organization for more than 10 years and as a facilities manager at an acute care hospital for approximately five of those years. Martin and his team perform energy audits, facility assessments, facility support, Siemens BAS (Building Automation System) support and programming, monitoring based commissioning, training, and more. Together with his team, he has performed more than 60 energy audits in the last three years. He has been a guest speaker for the Puget Sound Chapters of APIC, WSSHE, and ASHRAE. He has worked with NEEC (Northwest Energy Efficiency Council), WSU, Commerce, and various professional associations to help educate people on the implications of the Washington State Clean Buildings Performance Standard. Martin is also a Certified Energy Manager and holds his Certified Energy Auditor certification.

Matt has been around UMC his entire life, in fact, his family founded University Plumbing and Heating in 1920, now UMC. Matt formally joined UMC in 1993 and hasn’t looked back since. His background as a Local 32 plumber, innovative mindset that is always pushing UMC to the next level, and ability to motivate crews on all jobs big and small is unmatched. His approach? Clear communication, passion for what we do, enthusiasm for his people, and setting the example. You will find Matt running around the region encouraging his crews and getting them what they need before they need it so there isn’t an excuse to take a short cut.

Ray predominantly works on the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) and Fred Hutch accounts and after a long week at work, Ray burns off steam by hitting the gym, eating good food, and being in good company. As project developer for UMC’s Energy + Environment group, Ron has 37 years in the construction, building operations, and planning industry. He began his energy efficiency career 18 years ago at the Washington State University Extension Energy Program and later joined the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services (DES) as the resource conservation program manager with a focus on operational savings. His work at DES resulted in measures that reduced energy consumption on the Washington State Capitol Campus by over 40% (roughly $3 million). He also led DES to meet its 2030 carbon reduction goal in 2021. Ron holds his Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification and is the former Chairperson of the Washington State Department of Commerce State Efficiency and Environmental Performance (SEEP) Current Facilities Work Group.

Ryan’s top priorities on the jobsite are monitoring the trade and customer satisfaction. He makes sure his crews are set up for successful completion of a project from the start, minimizing the need for troubleshooting after the fact. A clear and calm thinker, he maintains transparent communications with customers throughout a project, making him a sought-after team member. Ryan is as passionate about the environment as he is about his work. Just as he help buildings reduce their carbon footprint, he strives to live a low-impact lifestyle by reducing his own energy consumption daily. He recently built an impressive 20KW solar system that supports his own property as he strives to build his family a completely self-sustaining, off-the-grid homestead.

As the Director of Marketing and Communications at UMC, Sandy takes pride in telling the UMC story and building the brand. With 20+ years under her belt, part of Sandy’s DNA is to support the growth and development of herself and others, which is why she has been an active member of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) for nearly 20 years. She has served on the Seattle Chapter board of directors and on chapter committees in various capacities, including president in 2013-14, programs director, ambassador, nominations committee chair, the regional conference committee, roundtable program chair, Fellows Forum chair, and senior advisor. Sandy is in tune with the true pulse of UMC. She finds that creating with her dedicated teammates is the most rewarding aspect of her role.

Scott is an associate principal and manager of UMC’s Energy Services Group. He has more than 30 years’ experience working in the fields of energy conservation and HVAC design; most notably within the performance contracting arena. This includes an extensive history of performing facility energy audits, analyzing potential opportunities, developing energy conservation measures, designing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls and lighting upgrades, and working closely with facility owners and operators to identify and develop projects that solve problems and meet specific needs.

As a field supervisor, Shawn is known for consistent communication and proactive planning. He is always looking ahead to capitalize on everyone’s best interest and abilities. ShirleyAnn has been a part of the construction industry most of her life, most recently working on thermal energy projects. In addition to her hands-on project experience in both field and project management roles, she brings a wealth of knowledge in risk management and contract writing. Stephen focuses on developing and managing healthcare client relationships as well as deploying strategies that inspire operational efficiency throughout the greater Seattle area. Steve has a gift for solving design challenges in simple, elegant ways. He is well-respected by the architectural community for his approach to mechanical design and was voted the 2016 “Industry Partner of the Year” by IA Interior Architects. Not only is Steve a savvy engineer, but he is also a building, mechanical, and energy code expert for projects built in Bellevue and Seattle. Steve leads UMC’s engineering and design efforts, including all required energy calculations, code review, and system designs for all mechanical systems.

I’m a far cry away from those pre-college days when I commuted to work in a dune buggy and installed chain link fencing. But my career path from then through general contracting, civil engineering design, mechanical contracting to my leadership role at UMC all have one thing in common—I am learning new things all the time. Since 2000, with my work on large industrial projects like the Brightwater Treatment Plant to the significant commercial construction projects I am involved in today, UMC has opened a whole new world to me. I enjoy the journey of discovery, education and critical thinking to get to solutions that work. I relish in the endless possibilities this dynamic, ever-changing industry holds. One thing I know for sure, we can’t bury our heads in the sand; we must embrace whatever the future brings.

As the assistant controller, Todd supports department leaders across UMC to stay organized and manage their fiscal needs. His financial management background gives him the insight to ensure that UMC projects are meeting budgetary standards.

Todd is more than a talented number cruncher. Outside of the office, you can find Todd spending his time with family, golfing, and skiing. He is an avid Seattle sports fan and enjoys rooting for the Mariners and the Seahawks.

If you ask his team, they’ll say that Tom puts emphasis on safety, schedule pushing, and end-user satisfaction. Having those three as pillars from the start of a project helps his team to keep their eyes on the prize: providing the people who will come into the building with a safe and productive space to do life-changing work.

As a third-generation sheet metal worker Tom prides himself on working safe while maintaining the highest level of craftsmanship possible. The daily huddles start with safety and end with safety. His ability to plan and think outside the box helps his projects finish on time and under budget.

Having the opportunity to lead projects and teams that help clients connect with the world in meaningful ways from concept through construction is what gets him excited every day. Construction aside, Troy is first and foremost a family man devoted to his wife and sons—and sailing the open waters.

Camilla is passionate about healthcare and has spent her career trying to make it easier for healthcare organizations to do the right thing. Her background and experience working directly for healthcare organizations on both the operation and capital construction sides has given Camilla a deep understanding of the challenges these facilities face day-to-day.

Camilla is a self-proclaimed lifelong learner and firm believer that education is the one thing that can never be taken away. She holds an M.S. in Disaster Medicine and Management, along with the credentials CHFM (Certified Healthcare Facility Manager), CHC (Certified Healthcare Contractor), CHPEW (Certified Healthcare Physical Environment Worker), and BOC L1 & L2. An active member in the healthcare community, Camilla has held positions with the Washington State Society for Healthcare Engineering (WSSHE) Puget Sound Chapter, the American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE), and the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Camilla helped develop the “Stationary Engineers Apprenticeship Program” in collaboration with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 302 and Seattle Children’s Hospital; this program is a rigorous four-year program that couples classroom learning with on-the-job training to equip the next generation of building engineers.

As Director of Construction Technology, Darren leads the strategy, implementation, management, and support of construction and manufacturing technology across UMC. His experience to date spans a wide variety of industries in manufacturing, construction, and software, Darren’s ability to navigate between high-level vision to the very nuanced details of problems helps him develop solid processes and troubleshooting. Among his many accomplishments, he was a subject matter expert for the development of an open-source Autodesk Fabrication COD Scripting language extension for Microsoft Visual Studio code editor.

For over a decade, Young has provided the MEP contractor industry a free suite of Autodesk Fabrication Scripts to help them manage their Autodesk Fabrication configurations. He is an avid speaker at Autodesk University, MEP Force, and the Congress of the Future of Engineering Software. He is a member of the Autodesk Developer Network (ADN); Autodesk MEP Fabrication Customer Council; SMACNA Construction Technology Committee; and US National BIM (Building Information Model) Standards Committee/National Institute of Building Sciences (former).

Martin and his team perform energy audits, facility assessments, facility support, Siemens BAS (Building Automation System) support and programming, monitoring based commissioning, training, and more. Together with his team, he has performed more than 60 energy audits in the last three years. He has been a guest speaker for the Puget Sound Chapters of APIC, WSSHE, and ASHRAE. He has worked with NEEC (Northwest Energy Efficiency Council), WSU, Commerce, and various professional associations to help educate people on the implications of the Washington State Clean Buildings Performance Standard. Ray predominantly works on the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) and Fred Hutch accounts and after a long week at work, Ray burns off steam by hitting the gym, eating good food, and being in good company. As project developer for UMC’s Energy + Environment group, Ron has 37 years in the construction, building operations, and planning industry. He began his energy efficiency career 18 years ago at the Washington State University Extension Energy Program and later joined the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services (DES) as the resource conservation program manager with a focus on operational savings. His work at DES resulted in measures that reduced energy consumption on the Washington State Capitol Campus by over 40% (roughly $3 million). He also led DES to meet its 2030 carbon reduction goal in 2021. Ron holds his Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification and is the former Chairperson of the Washington State Department of Commerce State Efficiency and Environmental Performance (SEEP) Current Facilities Work Group.

Ryan is as passionate about the environment as he is about his work. Just as he help buildings reduce their carbon footprint, he strives to live a low-impact lifestyle by reducing his own energy consumption daily. He recently built an impressive 20KW solar system that supports his own property as he strives to build his family a completely self-sustaining, off-the-grid homestead.

With 20+ years under her belt, part of Sandy’s DNA is to support the growth and development of herself and others, which is why she has been an active member of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) for nearly 20 years. She has served on the Seattle Chapter board of directors and on chapter committees in various capacities, including president in 2013-14, programs director, ambassador, nominations committee chair, the regional conference committee, roundtable program chair, Fellows Forum chair, and senior advisor. Scott is an associate principal and manager of UMC’s Energy Services Group. He has more than 30 years’ experience working in the fields of energy conservation and HVAC design; most notably within the performance contracting arena. This includes an extensive history of performing facility energy audits, analyzing potential opportunities, developing energy conservation measures, designing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls and lighting upgrades, and working closely with facility owners and operators to identify and develop projects that solve problems and meet specific needs.

Not only is Steve a savvy engineer, but he is also a building, mechanical, and energy code expert for projects built in Bellevue and Seattle. Steve leads UMC’s engineering and design efforts, including all required energy calculations, code review, and system designs for all mechanical systems.

I’m a far cry away from those pre-college days when I commuted to work in a dune buggy and installed chain link fencing. But my career path from then through general contracting, civil engineering design, mechanical contracting to my leadership role at UMC all have one thing in common—I am learning new things all the time. Since 2000, with my work on large industrial projects like the Brightwater Treatment Plant to the significant commercial construction projects I am involved in today, UMC has opened a whole new world to me. I enjoy the journey of discovery, education and critical thinking to get to solutions that work. I relish in the endless possibilities this dynamic, ever-changing industry holds. One thing I know for sure, we can’t bury our heads in the sand; we must embrace whatever the future brings.

Working with others to solve problems safely and efficiently is at the top of Tim’s “favorite parts of the job” list. Some think he gets his quick thinking and genius inspirations from the classic childhood TV show, MacGyver.

TJ excels at bringing the details to life for clients so they can get a true sense of what UMC’s solutions will feel like. He understands the many and varied layers —hierarchy, wayfinding, workflows and scheduling—that help businesses use the built environment to achieve their goals. Off the clock, you can find him outside year-round playing soccer, volleyball, hiking, or snowboarding.

Todd Ryland

As someone that loves math, data analysis, and building tangible projects, Todd has found a solid match for his expertise and passions at UMC. As the assistant controller, Todd supports department leaders across UMC to stay organized and manage their fiscal needs. His financial management background gives him the insight to ensure that UMC projects are meeting budgetary standards.

Todd is more than a talented number cruncher. Outside of the office, you can find Todd spending his time with family, golfing, and skiing. He is an avid Seattle sports fan and enjoys rooting for the Mariners and the Seahawks.

Tom Booth

PROJECT SUPERINTENDENT

If you ask his team, they’ll say that Tom puts emphasis on safety, schedule pushing, and end-user satisfaction. Having those three as pillars from the start of a project helps his team to keep their eyes on the prize: providing the people who will come into the building with a safe and productive space to do life-changing work.

As a third-generation sheet metal worker Tom prides himself on working safe while maintaining the highest level of craftsmanship possible. The daily huddles start with safety and end with safety. His ability to plan and think outside the box helps his projects finish on time and under budget.

Negotiator, people manager, fleet and facilities manager—Tom loves to stay busy and always is. Whether it’s overseeing the purchasing department, keeping an eye on the warehouse, finding solutions to facility needs, Tom keeps the wheels turning at UMC.

As a plumber, Tony has had many roles and is able to look at tasks from many different angles. He takes extreme pride in workmanship and quality and refuses to lower his standards. On Tony’s jobs, expectations are high, and it is his job to motivate the crew to meet those expectations. Inspiring our crew members to do their best and take pride in their work is an integral part of what he does.

Trevor’s interest in the accessibility of low-impact solutions, and sustainable design sensitive to place, led him to join UMC in late 2018. He works methodically through problems while exploring all options to ensure we are creating energy efficient systems and seeking out the opinions of all team members to provide our clients with the best possible outcome, every single time.
