With eight years under her belt in construction, and three at UMC, Lacey Neubauer is a Fire and Smoke Damper Technician and Supervisor that enjoys fast-paced challenges. Her favorite tool? A Sawzall because nothing beats the adrenaline of destruction.

What do you do? What is the best part of your job?

I am a fire/smoke damper technician and fire/smoke damper supervisor. I also do duct installation and welding when it is needed. The best part of my job is always learning something new every day.

What do you enjoy most about the construction industry? What is your favorite project you have worked on?

I enjoy facing new challenges every day and feeling like I have accomplished something at the end of the day.

My favorite project I have worked on was the [Sound Transit] N140 Tunnel because of the fast pace and challenges we faced on the project.

What makes you proud of your work?

I am proud of the work I do because I am constantly setting goals for myself and making sure I achieve those goals.

What advice would you give to women who may be considering coming into the industry?

That this can be a very physically demanding career and with working in the trades you have to have a high level of self-confidence.

March 6 – 12, 2022 is Women in Construction Week. The focus of Women in Construction (WIC) Week is to highlight women as a viable component of the construction industry. WIC Week also provides an occasion for NAWIC’s thousands of members across the country to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry. It is also a time for local chapters to give back to their communities.
