U-Link Sound Transit U250

Description:

The Sound Transit University of Washington Station is an underground facility located adjacent to Husky Stadium.  The station provides access to the UW campus and UW Medical Center, nearby sports venues, and surrounding neighborhoods.  This 10-story, below grade building spanning a distance of three football fields, with its narrow and massive structure, is unique in design, both architecturally and mechanically.  Transit riders traverse the deep underground station on two pairs of up-down escalators and on two elevators for an inspiring 90 foot decent/ascent to the surface or train platform.  The top-down construction of the structure and complex sequencing of activities provided limited access into the jobsite, and has been compared to “building a boat in a bottle” closing any opportunity to return for corrections.
