A comprehensive energy audit identified multiple Utility Conservation Measures (UCMs) that provide the opportunity to improve the buildings infrastructure while significantly reducing utility costs. After carefully analyzing and designing these opportunities, a plan was put into place to implement eight key UCMs over a two-year period of time. The initial phase of implementation will consist of a Turbocor compressor upgrade of the laboratory air handling units, a redesign and upgrade of the lab exhaust air system to allow for variable air volume (VAV) operation and water conservation projects focused on the glass wash system as well as fixture upgrades throughout the entire facility. The end result will  allow ZymoGenetics to reduce their utility based carbon footprint by over 30%.
