Colton Richards recently joined UMC’s Major Projects Group as a Project Engineer. In his role, he will provide support to project managers in tracking and reporting labor hours, document control, or coordinating schedules.

Straight out of left field, Richards had the honor of playing college baseball while matriculating with honors as a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society. With a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Arkansas Tech University, His time behind the plate gave him a unique perspective and the opportunity to notice every detail in front of him.

"There are many fine details that are often overlooked and forgotten on the field, but I’ve learned through my playing days that every little detail matters,” said Richards. “This is true on the baseball field, but it also translates to the jobsite.”

Richards’ first exposure to the construction industry was working for Team Nelson Earthwork, Utilities, & Concrete where he was exposed to a wide variety of projects across the Puget Sound region. After that, he learned the production side of the industry, as well as the importance of clear communication and scheduling in his position at Closets by Design.

Off the clock, you will find Richards on the golf course (even if he spends more time looking for his ball) or around the town with his energetic black lab, Tucker.
