The Seattle Sounders, embarking on their 50th anniversary, needed a facility that not only met evolving MLS expectations and FIFA standards but also aligned with their core values. UMC undertook the challenge, providing mechanical and plumbing design and construction for this cutting-edge, 40,000 SF, two-story training facility. The location, once occupied by Longacres Racetrack and Boeing offices, needed a complete overhaul. This involved demolishing outdated infrastructure and equipment and integrating new piping and mechanical systems to accommodate specialized training needs. Notably, UMC prioritized sustainability and reduced energy consumption by integrating a Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) with a high-efficiency Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) to align with the club’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
The benefits of this transformation are many. This new facility will help lay the foundation for the next 50 years, fostering the Sounders’ ability to recruit the best players and carry out their values of fighting racism, standing for LGBTQ+ equality, defending the right to play, and protecting our planet. Beyond soccer, the facility promotes community engagement and positive impact, a space where the Sounders’ influence extends far beyond the field. This project embodies the intersection of sports excellence, sustainability, and social responsibility, a testament to the Sounders’ enduring commitment to their community and the beautiful game.
